  • (430.759) Topics in communication (Microwave system)

With the emergence of new-generation communication and radar systems such as 5G and autonomous cars, demands for microwave and millimeter-wave system engineers have rapidly increased. The objective of this course is to present the essential passive and active RF components such as antennas, amplifiers, VCO, and mixers, and also to present RF FEM performance-related topics such as noise and modulations from the aspects of microwave systems. Based on these studies the student performs a receiver design project using RF design software.

  • (430.759) Topics in Communication (Microwave Passive Circuit)

Filters play important roles in many RF/microwave applications. Emerging applications such as wireless communications continue to challenge RF/Microwave filters with ever more stringent requirements, higher performance, smaller size, lighter weight, and lower cost. The recent advances in novel materials, fabrication technologies and CAD tools have revolutionized filter design. The objective of this course is to present the basic filter theory upon which the various design procedures are based, so that students can adapt the various design techniques to new and unusual situations in the area of microwave devices.
  • (430.203A) Electromagnetics

Students can understand wave basics in Electromagnetics by using plane wave solutions based on Maxwell equations and propagation characteristics in different mediums. Also, they learn how waves propagate inside various transmission lines such as wave-guiding structures. Finally, they can understand antenna concepts and applications by learning antenna theory and analyzing basic antenna prototypes.
